Hollis Engley is a potter and former career journalist who lives and works in Pocasset with his partner, the potter Kimberly Sheerin. He was born and raised on Martha’s Vineyard and graduated from high school there. He went on to Cape Cod Community College and Lycoming College in Williamsport PA, where he received a BA in political science. He worked as a photographer, reporter and editor at newspapers on Cape Cod, the Vineyard and New Mexico before joining a national wire service in Washington DC.
He began making pots in the Art League School in Alexandria VA in 1991.
Hollis moved back to Cape Cod in 1998 and established Hatchville Pottery in Falmouth. He joined Kimberly Sheerin at The Barn Pottery in 2015. He makes functional pottery fired in The Barn’s gas kiln and twice a year in the Chris Gustin wood-fired anagama kiln. He teaches pottery at the Falmouth Art Center.
